Why You Need To Schedule Social Media

Have you ever gotten to the end of the month and you realize that you haven’t put much effort into social media? You eyeball your analytics and you see your numbers slightly dropping because you haven’t been promoting your content, products, or services as much. We’ve all been there. There simply aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes to really do it all.

But why make a schedule? How does planning out your social media really benefit you? Better yet, how does social media scheduling benefit readers?

Why you need to schedule social media

Social Media scheduling saves time

Every Sunday, I hyper focus on social media. It’s the only thing I do on Sundays pertaining to work (hey, I need a day off like everyone else!). I use my own little tricks for creating a social media strategy and I schedule my social media for the social media platforms my audience is most present.

Have you ever heard of “batch work”? It’s the process of focusing exclusively on one project or group of tasks as they relate to one another. When you bounce around (as I tend to do on the internet), you lose anywhere from 15-45 minutes easily because you aren’t focusing on your task. Not gonna lie… I have Facebook and Gmail closed just for the purpose of writing this blog post because they are my two greatest disruptors!

Focusing on scheduling your social media all at once will save you time if you block out an hour or two every week to do it. You’re going to find that you get a lot more of the work done, plus schedule out more posts across your social platforms.

You’ll never forget important dates

How many times have you forgotten to share that evergreen holiday post from last year and only remembered when it was too late? Been there. Done that. It’s so easy to forget to post about time sensitive posts and marketing materials when you’re so busy with other aspects of your business and personal life.

Next thing you know, that back to school post or that affiliate opportunity are squandered. Scheduling your social media ahead of time will make you take seasons and upcoming holidays into consideration so that you always send out relevant social media posts.

Pro Tip: I take note of upcoming holidays during the first week’s scheduling each month. This helps me strategize better and prompts me to push out social posts related to the holiday a little sooner.

You’ll always appear present and active

Do you judge a business by their level of social media activity? I do. When I see that a blog or business owner hasn’t posted on Facebook or Twitter in several months, I assume they are no longer active and not worth learning more about. Scheduling your social media will keep your accounts fresh and active in appearance.

More importantly, it allows you to be consistent. If you are regularly scheduling your social media, you won’t have large gaps in your activity. More consistent posting is assuring for your audience because you are always in their feed. The more they see your valuable information and content, the more they become familiar with you and your brand.

Pro Tip: Find a social media scheduler that has a post recycle feature. On instant satisfaction type social platforms such as Twitter, it’s not unheard of that your post might be missed the first 1-3 times you post it. It’s okay to schedule the same post for later. I really like CoSchedule for this.

What’s in a Scheduler?

Now that you understand the importance of social media scheduling, you need to try out some schedulers and find the one that’s best for you. Here’s a list of some favorite options you might check out to get you started:

  • CoSchedule (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn)
  • Tailwind (Pinterest, Instagram)
  • BoardBooster (Pinterest only)
  • Planoly (Instagram only – Web & App)
  • Plann (Instagram only – App)
  • Buffer (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn)
  • HootSuite (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, + others)
  • Later (Instagram only – Web & App)
  • SmarterQueue (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn)

What’s your favorite? scheduler?

I use a combination of schedulers for different things – although CoSchedule is my favorite. What are you using and why?

Kimi Kinsey has been an ENORMOUS source of both resources and inspiration for me throughout my business journey. I have been in her Facebook Group Hexagon Connection since I first started my business and it has been a complete game changer!

I've read my share of design material on the internet and elsewhere, but I could tell from lesson 1 that Kimi's [graphic design] course is a cut above. Her visuals clearly show you what NOT to do, as well as how to make your design elements look as clean and professional as possible.
